What Next Jamaica? Are we ready for CHANGE?

Watching how things are developing at home and listening to concerns by fellow Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica do paints a clear picture that a majority of Jamaicans are clearly united in wanting to see a New Jamaica. If one can say fortunately or unfortunately an opportunity has now presented itself for such a change to start taking place. This is spread over the pages of media, the talk shows, twitter and facebook with so many groups growing crying out for a New Jamaica.

I remember when my  organisation Facilitators For a Better Jamaica (FFBJ)  last year held a forum in London where we discussed “21st Century Jamaica  A Diaspora Perspective “ and where one of sub heading was “ Is Jamaica heading towards being a failed State”  such a sub heading enraged Jamaicans who said we were being negative …our invitation to the office of the High Commission was turned down and even a member of the Commonwealth Secretariat  in London said by placing Jamaica in the same line as a failed state makes them very uncomfortable. This was unfortunate as our objective was to highlight where Jamaica stands now and where we are heading if we don’t address poignant issues as we were on the precipice of being classified as a “failed state”.

Well the present situation has now overtaken us where we have this monster facing us which is simply “ Corruption and Crime” this has been  created , feted and nurtured over  the years and good people did not do anything, well I won’t debate whether or not anything was done the issue at hand is what next? what next after Dudus?  what next ? After Robinson?  What next after Bruce on the basis that he resigns what next?

This is what should be on the foremost of our minds as what is before us  will come to pass, the standoff will be over and America will have their way sooner or later but what next for Jamaica is the question are we really ready for a change are we really ready to make stand as a collective?

In closing I will share with you  a few  articles one setting out a chronology of events up to March and also a new Travel Advisory sent out by USA plus other links which will give you the state of things at play.

Do you think that us, the Jamaican Diaspora could liberate and free Jamaica from outside the country? I’d love for a third party or a reform-building party to bridge the gaps caused by poverty and other factors which plague our great nation.

I think the Diaspora can play a signficant strategic role but it must be enacted from within Jamaica and working in partnership with Jamaicans in Jamaica but built with outside strategic alliances.
